At the U.S. Shobukan, we teach traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate in addition to other Budo (martial arts) such as Judo, Jujitsu, and Kobudo (weaponry) as a complete discipline for the Mind (knowledge), Body (skills), and Spirit (character), which in addition to physical self defense promotes the development of high personal standards, respect for other people, and service to the community. We strive for the “Pursuit of Excellence” in all things to help students excel in their grade school, college, job career, and personal life. The core principles of this dojo (school) include Honor, Integrity, Humility, and Discipline. Under the leadership of Morio Higaonna, 10th dan, we are an affiliated IOGKF member dojo in Virginia (just outside of Washington, DC) as part of the South East Region of the USA. We provide students with an encouraging yet challenging environment using a safe, step-by-step progression for their Budo journey. Students will learn leadership, role modeling, positive attitude, confidence, discipline, etiquette, physical fitness, self defense, tournament competition, cross-over skills for other sports, and much more. New students are welcome to join our karate family and pursue “Fitness for Life” with martial arts training!
