One of the leading proponents of Okinawan Goju-ryu is Shihan Morio Higaonna of Okinawa, Japan. In 1987, he moved to the United States. Through his efforts here, Goju-ryu has grown and developed, making each one of us the beneficiaries of his great knowledge and in-depth teaching. He has developed a network of highly skilled instructors who are by far the most technically accurate and highly skilled you will find anywhere in the country, or for that matter, the world.

The International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation (I.O.G.K.F.) was established in July 1979 at a meeting held in Poole, England, at the first ever I.O.G.K.F. International training seminar.

Since that time, national organizations have been established in member countries to suit local and community needs. The governing group for the United States of America is the I.O.G.K.F. – U.S.A.

Because of the great dedication and determination brought forth, the I.O.G.K.F. now has approximately 75,000 affiliated members in over 50 nations.
