The benefits of membership
 in the
IOGKF-USA

The I.O.G.K.F. – U.S.A. welcomes new members regardless of age, race, sex or martial arts background. Before becoming a member of our organization, certain requirements must be met.

The most important of these is to adhere to the true teachings of traditional Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do. This requires following the teachings of Shihan Morio Higaonna, especially where the kata are concerned. He feels that the kata are the very essence of karate, and that if studied diligently, in the correct way, one can discover the essential principles and "hidden" meanings of karate.

Prospective members must meet in person with the I.O.G.K.F. – U.S.A. Chief Instructor or a designated representative. They will work together for a period of one year to meet membership requirements, develop kata and technique, and work toward a recommendation regarding full membership and retesting.

The cornerstone of the I.O.G.K.F. – U.S.A. is the Hoshin Policy Prospectus. It sets forth the objectives of the organization and is the basis for I.O.G.K.F. – U.S.A. Constitution, By-laws, and Rules. Members must be prepared to work as a team to cooperatively strengthen, expand, and promote the organization so that the objectives as stated therein may be realized.

As stated in the Hoshin, Instructors “of virtuous character, fair judgment and good technical ability” are attracted to, developed by, and kept within the organization. These instructors are essential to the future of the I.O.G.K.F. Therefore, Instructors are appointed and provided with guidance and assistance whenever feasible.
