Tenchi Goju Ryu Budokai - School of Karate and Self Defense
The Tenchi Goju Ryu Budokai – School of Karate and Self-Defense has been in existence for over forty years and in two states under the name of Mallin’s Martial Arts. Mallin Sensei, graded by Yamaguchi Gogen Sensei in 1955, turned the school over to his senior student Brock Sensei in 2001 after a decline in his health forced his retirement. In early 1997 Mallin Sensei asked Brock Sensei to begin training as often as possible with Morio Higaonna Sensei and start the long process of changing the school curriculum to I.O.G.K.F. standards; feeling Higaonna’s karate was the most pure of all Goju currently in existence.
Brock Sensei made many trips to train in seminars and gasshukus with Higaonna Sensei and the I.O.G.K.F. family, always feeling warmly welcomed and respected. In 2005, Higaonna Sensei and the I.O.G.K.F. – U.S.A. accepted the Tenchi School as a member dojo. It has been one of the best things that has happened to our school. We fully recognize that we have much left to accomplish. This transition will define our school and students in the years ahead and in a very positive way. Brock Sensei has had the good fortune to train with many respected karateka over the years including James Tawatao, Dan Inosanto, Lou Angel, Benny “The Jet” Urquidez, Jeff Speakman and others, using those opportunities to expand his knowledge base and better understand the martial arts world family.
Separate youth (5:30 - 7:00pm) and adult (7:00 – 8:30pm) classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday evenings and alternating Saturday mornings (9:00am). There are also randomly scheduled training sessions. The main dojo is 3,000+ square feet. Over 70 feet of mirrors line two walls. The floor is a firm Olympic style matting with six kumite rings. The lobby is over 1,200 square feet with mirrored glass allowing a complete view of the training area at all times. An additional 6,500 square feet is available for large groups and is carpeted. The entire facility is heated and cooled and includes showers. We look forward to having you visit our school at anytime. We also look forward to our first I.O.G.K.F. gasshuku.
Humbly, respectfully and with many many thanks to Higaonna Sensei, Peled Sensei, Nakamura Sensei, Lyons Sensei and David Chambers for their patience and untiring help in getting our school involved with the I.O.G.K.F. family, and to all of my training partners over the years who have tolerated, and continue to tolerate, my inadequacies.

Tampa Family Martial Arts
Tampa Family Martial Arts was founded in 2003 by Sensei Bob Bolton in Tampa, Florida. The goal of this dojo is to spread the teachings of Chojun Miyagi and Sensei Morio Higaonna as much as possible in its purest form. The school will not sacrifice the essense of Goju-Ryu for enrollment. In todays world, so many young people are being taught by commercial, franchised schools and instructors and the finished product is nothing resembling a martial art.
Sensei Bolton has two assistant instructors, Sensei Randy Reineger and Sensei James Strange. In assition, associate instructor Sensei Michael Han, Rokodan, teaches the adults from time to time. Sensei Reineger has his background in Uechi-Ryu, while Sensei Strange has his background in Shorin-Ryu. This mixture of some of the finest Okinawan styles in the world today allows us to pass the pureness and strength of these styles along to our students in a very diverse way
